Gentle support for infants and children
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on technique that helps release restrictions in the soft tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord. For infants and children, this approach can be deeply supportive — especially after birth or developmental stress. Using a light touch, CST helps balance the nervous system, improve mobility, and support the body’s innate healing processes.
At Avalon Wellness & Performance, we specialize in applying this therapy with clinical precision and compassion, helping little ones move, feed, and grow with greater ease.
What it helps
Pediatric CST can be helpful for a wide range of common concerns, including:
Torticollis or head-turning preference
Latching or breastfeeding difficulties
Colic, reflux, or digestive discomfort
Sleep disturbances or irritability
Birth trauma or complicated deliveries
Asymmetrical movement or C-shaped posture
Recurrent ear infections or congestion
Developmental or sensory-motor delays
What to expect
Sessions are gentle, calming, and fully guided by the child’s comfort level.
Parents remain present and involved throughout the treatment.
Intake & discussion — We begin by reviewing your child’s birth history, current concerns, and any previous therapies or interventions.
Observation & assessment — Subtle movement patterns and fascial tension are assessed through light, listening touch.
Treatment — Using approximately the weight of a nickel, the therapist gently supports release through the cranial base, sacrum, spine, and surrounding fascia.
Home guidance — Parents often receive simple follow-up suggestions, such as positioning, tummy time variations, or gentle touch techniques to encourage continued progress.
Most infants and children find CST deeply soothing — many relax, feed, or even nap during the session.
Why early intervention matters
During birth, compression and strain can create subtle restrictions in the craniosacral system. When unaddressed, these tensions may influence feeding, digestion, posture, and even nervous system regulation. Early CST intervention helps restore balance and support natural development.
Our approach
Our team combines advanced CranioSacral Therapy training (Upledger Institute, Beames CST, Barral Visceral Manipulation) with a nurturing environment designed for families.
We integrate CST with osteopathic manual therapy and gentle movement principles to ensure every session supports the child as a whole — structurally, neurologically, and emotionally.
What parents say
“I have been taking my 6 month old to have craniosacral therapy with Maxine once a week for the last month and seeing her is always the highlight of our week. Not only is Maxine super sweet and personable but she is also very knowledgeable. I feel like I learned so much from her in the little bit of time we’ve been seeing her. She does an amazing job at educating her patients and making sure you understand the reason behind what she does. My daughter’s body tension is almost nonexistent after seeing her for four sessions. My daughter never sleeps in her car seat and after two of the sessions, she fell asleep in the car as soon as I started driving home.
I’m so glad to have found her! A true gem!”
